The Journalism Student Society at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) recently held a Motivational Night, bringing together students from various schools to be inspired by distinguished academic leaders. The event featured three prominent school deans: Professor Leo Marai from the School of Humanities, Professor Kaipu from the School of Law, and Professor Saulei from the School of Natural and Physical Sciences (SNPS), who shared their insights on excelling in education and career development.

The night aimed to empower students to stay committed to their academic goals and prepare for future challenges. Professor Saulei emphasized the importance of competition and perseverance in personal and professional growth. "You have to be competitive and not let yourself down. Take on competition in every department or task assigned to you because that will determine your capacity and ability to achieve more in life," he advised.

The event also resonated with attendees from other schools, including Ms. Sylvia Kilali, a foundation-year student from the School of Business and Public Policy (SBPP). Reflecting on the experience, she said, "I was thrilled to be part of the event. Listening to the speakers reminded me to be competitive and to never give up, even when things get harder or when family support isn’t there. It opened my mind to be innovative, adventurous, and to push beyond my limits in my academic journey."

The Motivational Night served as an invaluable opportunity for students to connect with high-profile professionals and be inspired to pursue excellence in their studies. The speakers’ words of encouragement struck a chord with many, particularly younger students, who left the event feeling empowered and ready to face academic challenges head-on.

As the evening concluded, the Journalism Student Society's initiative was hailed as a success, fostering a sense of ambition and drive within the university community.
